D-C-Fix Vinyl FAQs

Q) Which tools are needed to apply D-C-Fix Vinyl?

In order to apply the vinyl, you’ll need the following:

  • Pen
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Craft Knife
  • Plastic smoother with a felt edge
  • A clean cloth
Q) Which surfaces can the D-C-Fix Vinyl be applied to?

The vinyl can be applied to any clean, flat surface such as walls, furniture, doors, etc. If you’d like to apply it to untreated wood, it is best to use a primer or sealer before doing so. If you’re concerned the vinyl won’t adhere to your selected surfaces, test it with a small sample.

Approved surfaces:

  • Metal
  • Marble
  • Plastic
  • Wood
  • Mirror
  • Flat glass
  • Worktops (kitchen, bathroom, etc)
  • Laminate
  • Flat wall tiles
  • Radiator covers
  • Painted walls

Surfaces to avoid:

  • Stone walls
  • Brick walls
  • Overly wet areas (showers, sinks)
  • Damp surfaces
  • Floors
  • Radiators
Q) How should I cut the vinyl?

On the backside of the vinyl, you’ll find a printed grid. You can use these grids to mark your desired size, making sure you follow the straight lines. It’s wise to leave yourself about 5cm extra on either side of your vinyl as it can be tricky to place correctly the first time. You can simply cut off the extra vinyl with your craft knife once it’s been applied.

Q) How can I apply the D-C-Fix vinyl?
  1. Begin by peeling a small section of the backing paper off (the grid system should be facing downwards) and applying it to your selected surface.
  2. As you slowly make your way down the surface, gently peel away more of the backing paper, smoothing it as you go.
  3. You’ll notice air bubbles beginning to form underneath the vinyl. A simple fix is using your smoother to push them to the sides of the surface.
  4. Slow and steady wins the race with this one, so continue slowing peeling off the backing and smoothing it to the surface one small section at a time, until you reach the end.
  5. Once you’re happy with the placement, cut the excess vinyl off with a craft knife.

Note: Feel free to reposition the D-C-Fix vinyl if you don’t get it quite right the first time. Be aware of creases and smooth them out using your plastic smoother before you fully commit to laying the vinyl down.

Q) How can I remove air bubbles?

If you run into any air bubbles don’t fret - you can remove them with either of these methods:

  1. Lift the vinyl until you reach the air bubble and smooth it towards the edge of the surface.
  2. Use a small needle to pop the air bubble and smooth the vinyl back down.

Q) Can D-C-Fix Vinyl be applied to bench and worktops?

Yes, it can. Since the vinyl is heat resistant up to 75°C and is both alcohol and water-resistant, it is possible to prepare food directly on the surface. If you decide to apply the vinyl to your kitchen worktop, avoid foods with a strong colouring (such as spices, food colouring, etc) as it can stain the surface. Just to be on the safe side, always use a worktop saver when getting things out of the oven and a cutting board when chopping things.

Q) How can I apply the vinyl around the sink or stove?

The best way to tackle the stove and sink is by cutting the vinyl into separate pieces. For example, using a full piece of vinyl at either side of the stove, then two smaller pieces at the top and bottom. Make sure to match up your pattern to make the surface look as sleek as possible.

Q) Can you apply the vinyl to places with grooves?

Yes, you can! Using a hairdryer to heat the vinyl will help you shape it to the grooves.

Q) How can I apply the vinyl to curved surfaces?

Using a hairdryer, heat the vinyl on the coolest setting. Gently smooth out the vinyl and press it onto your surface. Avoid pulling the vinyl as it may overstretch when warm. Feel free to use a glove when applying to protect your hands from the heat.

Q) How do I clean the vinyl?

D-C-Fix® Vinyl can be cleaned with common cleaning products, as long as they’re non-abrasive. Simply cleaning it with warm, soapy water will suffice. Avoid products containing bleach as it can discolour the vinyl.

Q) Can I use the vinyl outdoors?

D-C-Fix® Vinyl is intended to be used inside, but it can be used outside too. However, due to changing weather such as sun, rain, wind, etc, the life expectancy is less than if you were to apply it indoors. If you do choose to apply it to an outdoor surface, a sealant is recommended.

Q) My surface is bigger than the vinyl, what should I do?

You can use multiple rolls to cover one surface. When possible, try to place the edges where it’s least visible. Overlap 2-5mm to avoid any of the backing being exposed. If you’re using the vinyl on a surface near water (e.g kitchen or bathroom) it is best to use a sealant. Try and match the design as much as possible to make the surface look sleek.

Q) What width is the vinyl available in?

Our D-C-Fix® Vinyl is available in 45cm, 67.5cm, and 90cm wide rolls.

Q) What length is the vinyl available in?

Our D-C-Fix® Vinyl is available in 2m / 15m rolls. Some patterns are available in other sizes, so check your selected pattern beforehand.

Q) How thick is the vinyl?

All of our D-C-Fix® Vinyl is approximately 0.1mm thick.

Q) Is it possible to split a roll or order a custom size?

Yes! We do lengths in full meters, so you can order from 1 meter all the way up to 15 meters.

Q) Is D-C-Fix Vinyl heat resistant?

D-C-Fix® Vinyl is heat resistant between -10°C and 40°C and can take up to 75°C for a short period.

Q) Is D-C-Fix Vinyl fireproof?

Since the vinyl is made from PVC, it is not fire safe.

Q) What is D-C-Fix Vinyl made from?

D-C-Fix® Vinyl is made from PVC, monomeric calendered film. It is water-based acrylic and solvent-free. The backing paper is 60 g/m2.

Q) Where is D-C-Fix Vinyl made?

D-C-Fix® is manufactured in Germany.

Q) Can I order a sample?

Yes, you can! You can order a sample here. We want to ensure you’re completely satisfied with your vinyl choice as the colours and patterns may look slightly different depending on your device. Our samples are 14.5cm by 20cm.

Q) Could there be a variation in colour between different rolls of the same pattern?

Since all of the vinyl rolls are printed, there is a possibility of a small variation in colour between rolls. Usually, it isn’t noticeable, but to ensure your vinyl completely matches it is best to order all your vinyl at once.

Q) Is D-C-Fix Vinyl environmentally friendly?

The adhesive is solvent-free and is free from heavy metals. Since it is printed with water-based ink, it is more environmentally friendly than most vinyl printed products.

Q) What colour is the backside of the vinyl?

When the vinyl is light, the backside will be white. When the vinyl is darker, the backside will be black. It is always a block colour.

Q) How much vinyl do I need?

To determine how much vinyl you’ll need, measure the width of your surface as well as any edges you’d like to cover. Add an extra 7-8cm for the excess trim. (Eg 57cm wide surface + 8cm = 65cm)

Q) How can I remove D-C-Fix Vinyl?

Just like removing a sticker, gently pull one corner and begin to peel. To make it easier for yourself, warm the vinyl up with a hairdryer beforehand. If there is any adhesive residue left behind, it can be removed with warm soapy water. In most cases, the vinyl will come off without damaging the underneath surface. If the surface wasn’t completely flat to begin with, was painted, or applied on paper, some of the surfaces may come off with the vinyl.
